Ok, I'll bite. I find that I almost always open doors with my right hand, though I'm technically left-handed, and would move this type of knob toward the floor. My other technique for opening doors is a well placed karate kick....

Shouldn't it open if the handle is either raised or lowered out of the horizontal position? Either up or down should move the latch into the door. I also open doors with my right hand although I'm mostly left-handed and it's easier to push down than to pull up.
